Mobility Space For All - To A New Transit Culture
Shared Space is a concept of urban design. Streets, roads and squares are perceived as living space that is shared by all. This living space is designed to encourage people to stop and spend time, meet friends and enjoy a more sociable environment. Clear and legibly designed areas enable communication between all and replace the use of traffic lights, road signs and other barriers in organizing public space. A steady flow of car traffic is improved.
To draw new attention to public spaces, political representatives need to empower citizen groups as local experts who can identify and resolve problem situations themselves.
Austrian Mobility Research conducts and facilitates participation processes and develops jointly with citizen groups a living model of the public space of their area. This social model will later then be translated into an architectural form, and in cooperation with traffic planners, put into implementation.
